We will hold a special exhibition “Songs and Voices of Hearing Kumamoto”

2023.09.27

Kumamoto University is pleased to announce the exhibition “Songs and Voices of Hearing Kumamoto” in conjunction with the invitation to the 47th International Academic Conference of the Korean Society of Japanese Modern Studies to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
This special exhibition features ”Singing National Policy Songs Together – Choka, Fifth High Schools, and Korea” in the 1st exhibition room on the 2nd floor of the 2nd floor of the 5th High School Memorial Hall, and ”The Voice of Minamata:listening to Music: Recordings, People, and Memory” in the 2nd exhibition room . The former is the ”Jinjo Shogaku Shoka,” whose production was deeply attended by people connected to Fifth High School, one of the predecessor schools of Kumamoto University, and the latter is a collection of poems written by people who lived in Minamata and is preserved in the Kumamoto University Archives. The material is a cassette tape containing the voices of the people (”Okamoto Tatsuaki Materials”). This panel will introduce the unexpected connections between colonial Korea and the songs and voices born in the Meiji and Taisho eras. We have prepared several materials such as sound sources at the venue.
