We will be holding a special exhibition at the archives, “Kumamoto Sogo University Establishment Association Materials Exhibition.”

2023.11.02

Kumamoto University was established in 1949 as a result of post-war educational reform, with five public schools in Kumamoto, including the Fifth High School, as its base. In preparation for its establishment, officials from Kumamoto Prefecture and municipalities within the prefecture, as well as representatives from the predecessor schools, established the ”Kumamoto Sogo University Establishment Association”, and the public and private sectors worked together to formulate plans, make petitions, collect donations, and engage in a wide range of activities. Saburo Sakurai, the governor of Kumamoto Prefecture at the time, serves as the chairman of the association.
In this exhibition, we will introduce some of the path that led to the birth of Kumamoto University, using materials showing the activities of the Establishment Association held by the Kumamoto University Archives and photo panels showing the opening of the university.
We would appreciate it if you could coincide with Kumamoto University Homecoming Day, which will be held on Saturday, November 4th.
